Everett Emerson Graves was born on September 19, 1885 in Clinton County, Ohio. [1] Emerson was born a twin, and his twin brother, Emerson Everett, passed away at birth.[2] He was the son of Andrew Graves and Martha Ann Frost.[3] His first marriage was to May Parkinson. She was only 15 at the time. Giving
a false age of 20, they were married in Newport, Kentucky[4] It is unknown if there were any children from this first marriage. His second wife was Ethel Hillman. They had two children. She died in 1937. [5] His third marriage was to Dorothy May Morgan. They had one child. [6] Everett, unfortunately, drank. This resulted in a devastating impact on the family, as he murdered a respectable gentleman and was sent to the Ohio State Penitentiary.[7][8][9] Ethel struggled to support herself and her children, and she fought to have Everett released on the grounds the family needed his support. [10][11] Governor Cox of Ohio released Everett despite protests from the community. [12] Dorothy Morgan Graves separated from Everett in 1950 and divorced him in 1953. He was once again drinking. [13][14][15]
