Oswald Gramens was of German ethnicity, but considered himself Polish and held Polish citizenship.[3][1]
He and his wife moved around, but eventually, they ended up in Łódź. There, he recieved his diploma as Master Tailor from local Cech Krawców (En. Guild of Tailors). He eventually started his own Tailoring Workshop.[1][4][5]
During WWII, he registered in the Deutsche Volksliste, possibly as cathegory II: Deutschstämmige, for his family's protection[6]. This unfortunately, ended up with all of his sons being drafted into the Wehrmacht. Each of them deserted and gave themselves up to the other side as soon as they could. Except for the youngest, who had been recaptured and imprisoned.[3]
1933 is the year that his mother Wanda Gramens (abt.1856-1933) passes in Perth Amboy, Middlesex, New Jersey, United States. She is buried at the Alpine Cemetery.[10]
1939 Sometime during the WWII, Oswald is registered in the Deutsche Volksliste.[6]
Sometime during the WWI, his son Lesław Gramens passes on the Eastern Front.[8]
1945 Oswald is considered "Hostile Element" and has to apply for replacement ID.[11]
1946 after the law is changed, Oswald is persecuted for criminal liability for deviation from nationality. He risks 10 years in prison and loss of all of his property.[6]
