John was born or baptised on 14 December 1690 in Inverkeithing, Fife, Scotland. He is the son of William Graham and Isobell Davie. ^[1]

He married Elspet Sharp on 17 December 1719 in Dysart, Fife, Scotland ^[2]

They may have previously had an irregular marriage as they appeared in front of the church committee to be rebuked. John Graham, Rebuked, 18 May 1718, Confessed 18 May 1718 in Dysart. confession of an Antenuptial Relationship. Elspeth Sharp named 18 May 1718, Confessed 1 June 1718.^[3]
