Of Llanstinnan, Swansea.
Harriet is John’s second wife.
[Amos family history]: John’s origin is obscure. He arrived in the district as a peddler, selling his wares from door to door and became well-known and popular. Morris’ Store was built for him in 1838 and he subsequently sold the building to James MORRIS whose descendants still conduct business in the same property. John, together with John Perkins KING, purchased the ship “Agnes Elizabeth” and traded with it along the coast. He was elected to the first Rural Council in Glamorgan in 1860, and was elected first Warden of Glamorgan, a post he held for five years. He was also the Glamorgan postmaster for a few months. He drafted many of the sections of the Local Government Act which stood for over forty years with only minor amendments.
