The son of Johann Niclaus Beym Graben (1801-) and Anna Catharina Von Felden (1808-), Christopf Graben was born in Hanover, Germany[citation needed] in 1846. He migrated to the United States with his family in 1856, sailing out of Hamburg, Germany on September 1, 1856 aboard the S.S. 6. Friedrich Grabin (1843-)

He moved west with his family to Iowa, settling in Jefferson Township, in Johnson County, where his father took up farming.[2] In 1870, Charles and his family lived Monroe Township, Iowa.[3]

Charles married Sarah (Barnes) Grabin, marrying in Johnson County, Iowa on September 27, 1871[4] and having five children together. In 1880, they lived in in Oxford Township, Iowa.[5] Charles and his family later moved to Iowa County, residing in Lincoln Township.[6][7][8][9] By 1920, Charles had retired from farming and he and his wife lived with their son, Will, in Warren Township, Iowa, in Poweshiek County.[10]

Charles Grabin passed away in Victor Township, Iowa[11] at the age of 75 and is buried at Victor Memorial Cemetery.[12]
