Birth
No definitive parish record of John's baptism has been identified. Based on the year of his daughter Jannet's baptism (1701) it is estimated that John was born about 1675. No evidence of baptisms of other family has been established so it is assumed that Jannet is his first (and only) child. There are baptisms in Dirleton where the father is named as John but unfortunately no mother's name is recorded. The most recent baptism is some 10 years prior to Jannet's and therefore there is too much of a gap to conclude the father is the same John.
