Alfred was born in 1889. He was the son of Benjamin Gould and Elizabeth Denson.
He was born in Timaru in the South Island. In 1907 he and his family moved to the North Island and settled in the Waikato District. His father died in 1910.
Alfred married Emily Frances Brindle in 1916. They appear to have had no children.
When the 1st World War broke out Alfred was working as a Farmer. He enlisted and served as a Lance Corporal/Military with the 2nd Reinforcements, Auckland Infantry Regiment, A Company, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, His next of kin was recorded as Mrs Emily Frances Gould (wife), Taihoa, via Matamata, New Zealand. Service No: 38377
EMBARKATION DETAILS WW1: 16 Feb 1917-2 May 1917 to Plymouth, Devon, England. Vessel was Aparima.
Tragically he was killed in action in 1917. He was 28 years of age.
