Biography

Clementina (Gordon) Falconer is a member of Clan Gordon.

Clementina (Gordon) Falconer was born on 5 March 1740 and was christened the following day 6 March 1740 at Speymouth, Moray, Scotland. Her parents were James Gordon (1697 - 1765) and Margaret (Cruickshank) Gordon (1708 - 1793).[1]

Clementina was married to John Falconer on 8th December 1774.[2]

Their children are:

  1. James Falconer born 18th September 1775[2]
  2. Alexander Falconer born 17th March 1777 Minister at Glenrinnes[2][3]
  3. Patrick or Peter Falconer born 16th July 1779, Captain in the Indian Army[2]
  4. Charles Falconer born 15th March 1781[2]
  5. John Falconer born 17th April 1784[2]

Clementina died on 28 Oct 1831 in Elgin, Moray aged 91. She is buried in Essil Old Churchyard, Garmouth, Moray.[4] The headstone reads:

In memory of
JAMES GORDON, Merchant in Garmouth,
who died the 8 day of Nov 1765 aged 69 yrs; and of
MARGARET CRUICKSHANK, his spouse,
who died the 26 day of Sept 1793 aged 85 yrs; and also of
HELEN GORDON their dau
who died the 19 day of Jan 1813 aged 82 yrs.
Their remains are deposited in the grave
westward of this monument.
In it also are deposited the remains of their dau
CLEMENTINA, widow of the late John Falconer,
Minister of Stromness, who died the
28 day of Oct 1831 aged 90 yrs.

Research Notes

Husband: John Falconer

John Falconer was born in 1742 and a native of Moray. He was educated at Kings College Aberdeen receiving a Master of Arts in 1762. He was licenced by the Presbytery of Elgin on 31st March 1767 and ordained for service abroad on 25th March 1777 however he did not proceed with this service. He was admitted to Sandwick and Stromness Church on 17 February 1779.[2]

Son: Alexander Falconer

Alexander was born 17th March 1777 the son of John F, minister of Sandwick, Orkney. In 1809 he became the Minister of Glenrinnes, Morayshire.[3]
