Biography

Chellis was born in 1792 in New Hampshire. No proof of his parentage has been found.

In 1820, Chellis married Hannah Rosetta Wells (1796-1831) on 20 January 1820, in Exeter, New Hampshire.[1] They had the following children:

  1. Rosetta D., b. 2 Apr 1820
  2. Joel Graves, b. 14 Feb 1821
  3. John P., b. 20 May 1825
  4. Louisa, b. about 1831

Chellis' wife Hannah died at age 35 on 22 June 1831. She is buried in the East Cemetery in Benton, New Hampshire. On 16 June 1833, the widower Chellis married Olive (Flanders) Goodwin (abt.1810-) in Coventry, New Hampshire.[2]

In 1850, the family is living in Newport, Vermont.[3]

Chellis died at age 78 on 15 September 1871, in Dayton, Michigan. He is buried in the Bull Cemetery Newaygo, Newaygo County, Michigan.[6]

Thanks for adding all of these sources. Chellis is my 4th gg and I have been researching him on and off for about 15 years or more. Does anyone know why he was connected to Daniel and Miriam as his parents? I have been unable to solidly trace his origins.

Hi Mark, thanks for checking. I just added the probate record for Daniel Goodwin (1748-1834) and there is no mention of Chellis. I will remove the parents. Sorry for the false hope! ~Kathy
