James Garfield Goings is a part of US Black heritage.

James Garfield was born in 1885. He was the son of Emanuel Goings and Emily DeMar.

In the 1900 census James (age 14), Day Laborer, was the son of Emanuel Goings in New Market, Frederick, Maryland.^[1]

James (age 26) married Edmonia Robinson on 7 August 1912 in District of Columbia.^[2]

In the 1920 census James (age 34), Minister, was the married head of household in Washington, Washington, District of Columbia. He was living with wife Edmonia and 4 children.^[3]

In the 1940 census James (age 54), Clerk, was the married head of household in Washington, District of Columbia, District of Columbia. He was living with wife Edna (Edmonia), 10 children and a grandchild.^[4]

James died on 11 March 1966 and was buried in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Prince George's County, Maryland, United States.^[5]
