Gilbert Harry Goedel was born December 5, 1924 in Otter Tail County, Minnesota.[1][2] He was the oldest son and second child (out of five) of Harry Goedel and Clara Holstein.
In 1934, during the Great Depression, Harry & Clara lost their Otter Tail county farm due to financial issues. Together with their four children (Margot, Gilbert, Lillian, and Velma), they packed up and drove to Washington County, Oregon to start a new life.[3]
Gilbert married Thelma June Carson on July 21, 1946 in Washington County, Oregon.[4] Gilbert and Thelma had at least one child:

Gilbert died April 21, 1951 in Seattle, King County, Washington after open heart surgery.[7] Gilbert was buried in Friends Cemetery located in Newberg, Yamhill County, Oregon.[8]

There is an Ancestry.com record that shows a Gilbert Goedel returning from the Marshall Islands in1946, implying a possible military record.
