Biography

Rosalia Giordano is born and baptized 30 August 1813. She is the daughter of Antonino Giordano and Felicia Frija. Her godparents are Vincenzo Mannina and Caterina Oliveri, wife of Bernardo, who is her next door neighbor. They stand as godparents to Rosalia's older sister, Caterina.

The 1811 record shows Rosalia's parents and brothers living on the strada Grande, in Corleone. Her mother dies between 1811 and 1818, when her father remarries.

Rosalia marries Antonino Palazzo, a farmer, on 21 July 1833. It is the first marriage for either of them.

Rosalia and Antonino have at least eight children: Paola (1834), Felicia (1836), Giuseppe (c. 1841), Antonino (1842), Gioachino (1845), Biagio (1847), Giovanna (1850), and Vincenza (1852).

Paola and Giuseppe are named after their paternal grandparents. Felicia and Antonino are named after Rosalia's parents.

Paola is born and baptized on 22 August 1834, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Giuseppe and Salvatrice Mancuso, son and mother.

Felicia is born and baptized on 4 December 1836, named after her maternal grandmother. Her godparents are Calogero and Caterina Schillaci, a married couple.

Rosalia's father, Antonino, dies at age 52 (b. 1785) on 2 August 1837, during the first recorded cholera outbreak in western Europe, a plague that sweeps Sicily and sparks a revolt against the Bourbons.

Her daughter, Felicia, dies the following month at nine months of age, on 21 September.

Giuseppe, named after his paternal grandfather, is born and baptized on 25 September 1838. His godparents are Paolo Colajanni and Caterina Giordano, wife of the late Antonino. Antonino died in the cholera outbreak of 1837.

Antonino, the son, is born and baptized on 14 June 1842, named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Paolo Buccheri and Antonina Mosca, a married couple.

Gioachino is born and baptized on 19 January 1845. His godparents are Biagio Trombaturi and Bernarda la Russa, a married couple.

Biagio is born 23 May 1847 in his parents' home in via San Michele Arcangelo, Corleone. His mother's age is given as 39, for an estimated birth year of 1808. His birth is reported by Francesca Paola de Luca, age 43, the midwife. He is baptized the same day as Blasium. His godparents are Leoluca Trombadora and Maria Ruffino, a married couple.

Giovanna is born and baptized on 13 July 1850. Her godparents are Giovanni Pirrone and Vita Bartolotta, a married couple. Giovanna dies on 23 August 1851 at thirteen months of age.

Vincenza is born 26 June 1852, also in via S. Michiele Arcangelo. Her mother's age is given as 38, for an estimated birth year of 1814.

Paola marries at least three times, first to Calogero Saltaformaggio, on 16 November 1856.

Paola is widowed and remarries on 30 December 1860 to another widower, Michaelangelo Marino.

Giuseppe marries Teresa di Gregorio on 29 September 1861.

Biagio marries Giuseppa Mistritta on 14 September 1871.

Antonino dies at age 66 (b. 1809) on 14 December 1875. Rosalia survives him.

Vincenza marries at least twice. Her first husband, Bernardo Fratello dies 23 August 1879 at the age of 36. Their marriage date is unknown.

Vincenza marries again the following year, to Leoluca d'Anna, on 10 December 1880.

Paola marries for the third time, to Innocenzo Marchese,a widower, on 7 November 1885.

Rosalia dies at age 82 (b. 30 Aug 1813) on 31 May 1896. This record does not mention her marriage to Antonino Palazzo.
