Biography

Walter was born before 1765. He was the son of John Gilliam and Jane Henry. He passed away before 1821.

Walter was named after Walter Boyd who married Elizabeth Poythress who was also married Thomas Griffin Peachey who had also married Elizabeth Gilliam, Walter B Gilliam's aunt.

It appears that Walter had relations with enslaved Esther Tinsley. Walter leaves his estate, not to his near relatives excepting to "Robert Gilliam Junr a specific legacy of £50," his executor, but to Easter Tinsley and her daughters: Rebecca Nicholas and Jane Henry. Rebecca and Jane appear in a Registry of Free Negroes & Mulattoes of Petersburg.
