Biography
Ruhama Rapola Gilliam was born in Scott, Virginia on 11 Oct 1846 to Elenore Welch and John R. Gilliam. By the time she was four years old, in 1850, [1] the family had moved to Perry, Kentucky, where her father was a farmer. But, they were back in Scott, Virginia by 1860. [2]
On 10 Dec 1868 Ruhama married Sampson Bledsoe, a farmer, in Scott, Virginia. [3] They had nine children together and raised them in Scott, Virginia. Sampson died in 1896, but in the 1900 census, 54 year old Ruhana still ran their farm. [4]
Ruhama passed away, at age 77, on 2 Apr 1924 from "pneumonia and old age." [5] Her body was laid to rest at Bledsoe cemetery in Scott County. [6]
