Biography

Susannah Gilliam was born on March 12, 1755 and baptized on May 4, 1755 in Albemarle Parish, Sussex, Virginia. Her parents were Edmund Gilliam and Sarah McGee.

The birthdates given above for Thomas and Susannah's children cannot be Susannah's children as she was not of childbearing age at the time of their births.

There appears to be some confusion with the NC Smothers and the Delaware Smothers.

It has been said that Susannah married secondly after the death of Thomas Smothers a Parish Hatchett. A Susannah Smothers did marry in Orange County, NC in 16 Aug 1803 a Parish Hatchett; however, all the census records for Parish Hatchett show his wife to be much, much younger than Susannah Gilliam, born in 1755.
