Descendent of the famous Gillham family of the revolutionary war effort and the founders of St. Clair and Madison County, Illinois. He served as a State representative and Senator for the state of Illinois. He comes up frequently in Madison County, Illinois history books as he was shot by three burglars who invaded his home and he died about a month after.
Two men were tried and convicted for his murder based on the testimoney of the third armed robber who aledgely was in fact the primary culprit to the crime but many years later confessed while in prison for a separate offense. Unfortunately the two men who were wrongfully convicted died just a couple years prior to the murderers confession while in prison.
His obituary was printed in the Alton Telegraph on April 10 1890 with a biography and history of his contributions laid out in a staggering 2 Full page columns! [1]
