Biography

Samuel Gillham was the oldest child of James Clemons Gillham Sr. (abt.1753-1811) & Anne (Barnett) Gillham (abt.1756-bef.1819). [1]

Captured by Kickapoo Indians in 1790 with mother Ann, brother Clemons, and one sister, captive until 1795.

Samuel Gillham, son of James Gillham who is attributed to being the original white settler in the territory of Illinois, is found in many early court records for the territory. His name is often documented next to many of his relatives including his father and brothers, Jacob Clemonds Gillham (abt.1786-aft.1846), Issac Gillham (abt.1780-), James Harvey Gillham (abt.1794-1874) & David Marney Gillham (abt.1800-). [2]

Samuel settled in Section 15 (south side), Township 4, Range 9 west in Illinois.

May have held a slave named Frankay (with daughter)

Marriage to Anna Patterson (1783-abt.1845) (Oct 17 1798) in Madison County, Illinois.
