Andrew Gillam was born 7 February 1866 at Duns Tew in Oxfordshire. He was the son of John Gilson and his wife Mary, born Mary Snelson or Nelson. [1] [2] [3]
In 1871 Andrew Gillam was living at Duns Tew with his parents, John and Mary, and their other children. His age was given as 5, implying a birth date in 1865 or 1866. His birthplace was give as Duns Tew, Oxfordshire. He was at school. [2] He emigrated to Australia in about 1884. [3] He was employed by his uncle, the late Mr John Gillam of King's Creek. [3]
He married Jemima Gillam, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs John Gillam, of King's Creek. [3]
He passed away on 13 February 1950 at Clifton in Queensland. [3] His obituary gives his birth date as 7 February 1865, in Oxford, England. It must actually have been in 1866, because his birth was registered in that year. He was survived by his widow and 7 sons. Mr C. Y. Gillam, of Spring Creek, Clifton, aged 90 (in 1950), was an uncle. [3]
His "uncle" C. Y. Gillam of Spring Creek must have been the Charles Young Gillam who died there in 1951. [4] He must be the son of Charles Gillam (1817-1899) and Elizabeth Ann (Young) Gillam (bef.1815-1886), and so was really Andrew Gillam's cousin.
