Biography

Obituary from the Guernsey Times, Guernsey, Ohio, published July 28, 1892

Death of a Centenarian George Gill, the oldest citizen of the county, died last Wednesday at the home of his grandson, James C Smith in Adams township. He was born March 4, 1791, and was consequently a century and a year old. He was a soldier of the war of 1812 and was a pensioner of that war. He buried his wife two decades ago and had also buried all of his immediate family. The funeral took place on Friday and the services were conducted by Rev. Dr. McFarland. A large number of old soldiers accompanied the remains to the Cambridge cemetery, where they were laid beside those of his wife.

Another obituary which appeared in the Jeffersonian, of Cambridge Ohio, on July 28, 1892, said his birth was March 4, 1772, which must be in error, as he would have been 121 years old at the time of his death.
