Mary Gordon (Gillham) Good was born April 23, 1763 (according to Ezekiel & Sarah's family bible pg 678) in South Carolina to Ezekiel Gillham (abt.1732-1800) & Sarah (Clements) Gilham (abt.1736-aft.1800) and died in Madison County, Illinois.
The 1768/1769 Camden District was divided into three new districts - District Eastward of Wateree River, District Between Broad and Catawba River, and the New Acquisition District.
The family lived in New Acquisition District in the up country of South Carolina. This district was at the boundary with the North Carolina province on the north. The district had the Broad River on the west and the Catawba River on the east.
War came to the South Carolina colony in 1775 after news arrived from the Massachusetts Colony of fighting between Patriots there and British regulars at Lexington and Concord.
Many battles were fought in the district where the Gilham family lived.

Mary's father supported the cause of the Patriots and he served in the South Carolina Militia in the New Acquisition Regiment as a soldier in the cavalry.
Mary Gordon Gillham married Thomas Good in Georgia on March 21, 1781 (according to Ezekiel & Sarah's family bible pg 677). The couple moved to Madison County, Illinois in 1803 where Mary Gordon (Gillham) Good later died. [1]
Mary (Gillham) Good and her husband, Thomas Good donated the land for the first Methodist church in Illinois called Bethel Chapel, near modern-day Edwardsville. They had five children together that are known at this time:[2]
The following text is an excerpt from History of Madison County, Illinois : with biographical sketches of many prominent men and pioneers (page 73) which mentions the Mary Gillham, daughter of Ezekiel Gillham (abt.1732-1800) & Sarah (Clements) Gilham (abt.1736-aft.1800). Note that this Mary Gillham was married to a Mr. Thomas Good with whom she moved from Georgia to Illinois, and where she later died.
