Jane (Gilham) Loveridge lived in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand.

Jane was born around 1796, daughter of Francis Gilham and Mary (Mills) Gilham.[1]

Jane was baptised on 26 March 1798 at St Mary's Church in Netherbury, Dorset, England[2]

She married John Loveridge on 20 July 1823 at St Mary's church in Netherbury.[3]

Together they had the following children:

  1. John Loveridge (<1824 - 1881)
  2. Jane (Loveridge) Birdling (1826 - 1900)
  3. Robert Loveridge (~1828 - 1863)
  4. Mary Ann (Loveridge) Cunningham (1831 - 1914)
  5. William Loveridge (~1833 - 1923)
  6. Ellen (Loveridge) Bishop (<1836 - 1926)
  7. Samuel Gilham Loveridge (1839 - 1839)
  8. Samuel Loveridge (~1840 - 1927)

Jane and her husband John, together with their seven children emigrated from England to New Zealand. They travelled on the ship Timandra, sailing from Plymouth in Devon, England, on 2 November 1841 and arriving in New Plymouth, New Zealand on 24 February 1842. [4][5]

Her husband, John passed away in 1857 in New Plymouth at the age of 59.

Jane was a widow for some thirty-seven years before she passed away on 7 November 1894 in New Plymouth age 98.

Jane was buried at St Mary's Anglican Churchyard, New Plymouth on 10 November 1894[6][7]

Her estate was probated on 27 November 1894, her son William Loveridge (~1833 - 1923) being the executor and sole beneficiary.[8]

Research Notes

Her obituary says that she was a native of Cornwall. But Lauren Thomson has found her being baptised in Netherbury, Dorset. Cornwall is a fair distance from Dorset - you have to go through Devon to get there - so suspect the obituary may be incorrect.
