Ralph Waldo Emerson Gilbert[1]

In Taylorsville, Spencer County, Ky. on January 17, 1882[1]

Family

Son of George Gilmore Gilbert[1] and Elizabeth Hinkle

Came from a family "whose forebears were given land grants in Kentucky after service in the Revolutionary War"[2]

Education

University of Virginia at Charlottesville[1]

University of Louisville (Law) in 1901[1]

Occupation

Shelby County Court judge in 1910, 1914, and served till he resigned in 1917[1]

Was elected to the Sixty-seventh and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1921-March 3, 1929). Also elected to the Seventy-second Congress (March 4, 1931-March 4, 1933)[1]

Member of the State house of representatives in 1929 and 1933[1]

Member of the State senate in 1936[1]

October 1938: Considered one of "his most memorable local court appearance" was being the defense attorney to the Garr brothers, who were "accused of murdering General Denhardt in front of Armstrong Hotel." [3]

Married twice

1. Jane Thompson of Shelby County[2]

2. In 1935 married Victoria M. Vodila of Pennsylvania[2]
