Chester Alfred Gibson was born on June 16, 1901, in Lloyd, Iowa, his father, Alfred Thomas, was 26 and his mother, Olive Marie (Johnson) Gibson, was 25. He married Stella Marie Manott the daughter of George Jefferson, and Stella May (North) Manott, on September 16, 1922, in Poweshiek County, Iowa. In 1926 he moved to Rockford, Illinois, for a new job with Solem Machine Company as a Secretary and Treasurer. 1928 his world started to fall apart with his wife wanting a divorce in April 1929 the stock market crash on October 29, and the Great Depression had started. In 1931, Life was starting to feel better again on June 4, 1931 he married his second wife Marie Traina, in Clay County, South Dakota, just to return home and by July he was arrested and released on bond and indicted by the October, grand jury for embezzling $30,000 dollars from his former employer. On October 16th, After walking around the corridors of the courthouse for hours he checked into the Nelson Hotel across the street. Late in the afternoon, Chester went down to the lobby of the hotel bought a newspaper and went back to his room, where he had written 4 notes laid out his wristwatch and a quarter in change. Bye, his own hand proceeded to take the .32 caliber pistol that he had and committed suicide, he died that evening without regaining consciousness at Rockford Hospital, at the age of 30, and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, in Rockford, Illinois. It is believed that the guilt he was carrying along with the life of disgrace and the possibility of a penitentiary sentence was just too much for him to bear.
