Biography

Femme's name is a reconstruction according to the names his children gave to their children. - Griet (see above). - Marij Femmes, married 1 Herman Jans. Children: Fermer (1582, witness Trijn Fermers, Marij also called Fermers). Marij married 2 Luijtgen Bruijnsz. Children: Fem (1585, witness Lucij Femmes), Gerrit (1587, witness Lucij Femmes). - Trijn Femmes, married Arent Aerentsz (or Adriansz, or Arisz). Children: Griet (1583, witness Foeke Jacobs), Foock (1587, witness Geert Arents), Arent (1591, witness Albrecht Luijtgisdr), Claes (1591, witness Albrecht Luijtgisdr), Fermer (1593, witness Marij Adriaens), Aeront (1604, witness Stijn Pietersen). - Lucij Femmes, possibly unmarried or married but having no children. She acted as baptism witness to the children of Gerrit, Marij and also Heindrick Jansz. - Gerrit Femmes, married Sijberich Jans. Children: Femme (child Gerrit in 1601), Brecht (witness to Gerrit in 1601; the witness to her sons Geert & Gerrit in 1596 & 1606 was Sijbreg Jans; seems to have been married 4 times), Anna (witness to Peter’s child Anna’s baptism in 1607), Dieuw (child Gerrit baptized in 1602, witness Brecht), Peter (1681, witness Lucia Femmes).

While Femme (or Fem) was not a common name for a man, there were still at least 6 men named Femme who were married in Enkhuizen between 1580 and 1610.
