François Germain est né et baptisé le 11 Mars 1691 à Sury-aux-Bois, (St-Georges) Orléanais (ar. et év. Orléans, Loiret), France, fils de Georges Germain et d'Angélique Nicolle.[2][3]

François était soldat des troupes de la Marine

Il arrive au pays comme soldat des troupes de la Marine, cie de St-Martin, la première mention de lui étant en 1719. [2]

Marriage

François Germain, son of Georges Germain and Angélique Nicolle, married Marie Anne Perrin, daughter of Mathieu Perrin and Jeanne Pilet, on 14 June 1716 in Notre-Dame de Montréal. Named as present were François Frapier, François Lepage, Jacques Marquis and Joseph Perrin brother of the bride, none of whom could sign. Priat was the priest celebrating this marriage.[4]

Known children (St-Laurent being the parish on Montréal island and not île d'Orléans); residence listed on some is côte Notre-Dame-des-Vertus (aka modern day Côte-Vertu sector of Montréal):

  1. Marie Anne Germain, born 26 Feb 1718 in Montréal, bapt 27th; marries Jacques Viau 1 Dec 1736 in St-Laurent (she is called St-Germain) Note that this marriage made legitimate a child of theirs, Marie Angélique Viau
  2. Marie Jeanne Germain, born 22 Feb 1720 in Montréal ; marries Alexis Blotte (Bleau) 1 Jun 1738 in St-Laurent ; present are her father and Jacques Viau, brother-in-law; she dies 12 Mar 1775 in St-Laurent, no apparent children from her marriage
  3. Marie Françoise Germain, born 18 Mar 1722 in Montréal, died 16 Mar 1733 in St-Laurent, aged 11
  4. Marie Josephe Germain, born and bapt 25 May 1724 (bapt in Notre-Dame de Montréal, place of birth not specified) ; marries Joseph Miville on 1 July 1743 in St-Laurent. Listed as present at her wedding were her father, Marie Jeanne and Apolline her sisters as well as some of her in-laws.
  5. Marie Apolline Germain, born 7 Aug 1726 in St-Laurent ; marries Gabriel Cousinot (Cousineau) on 13 Feb 1747 in St-Laurent; listed as present on her side of the family are her father, as well as a brother-in-law Alexis Blotte (sp?) (also present at Marie Josephe's wedding)
  6. François Marie Germain, born 26 Aug 1728, died 6 Mar 1729 in St-Laurent, funeral 7th
  7. Antoine Germain, born 25 Jan 1730 in St-Laurent ; marries Marie Amable Rouleau 20 Jul 1750 in Sault-au-Récollet ; his father is present, his brother Jean also; he remarries on 31 May 1756 in St-Laurent with Marie Agathe Groux (Groulx); present at that wedding are his father and brother Jean Baptiste (factually Jean Amable) and brother-in-law Alexis Blotte
  8. Jean Baptiste Germain, born 25 Jun 1732 in St-Laurent ; dies 5 Aug 1750 in St-Laurent, listed as 19 year old (named Jean Baptiste Germain dit St-Germain)
  9. Angélique Germain, born 15 Apr 1735 in St-Laurent, bapt 16th ; marries Jean Baptiste de Voioux (sp??) 5 Mar 1753 in St-Laurent (listed as Marie Angélique), her father and brother Antoine are present, as well as Alexis Blotte
  10. Jean Amable (Amable) St-Germain, born 2 Nov 1737 in St-Laurent ; using the name Jean Amable Germain, he marries Marie Jeanne Brisebois 4 May 1767 in Ste-Geneviève (Pierrefonds), no family member of his is named as present.
  11. François Germain, born 25 Jun 1740 in St-Laurent ; marries Marguerite Ursule Langlois dite Traversy on 2 May 1763 in Notre-Dame de Montréal ; present are his brothers Antoine and Amable, Jacques Viau and Gabriel Cousineau his brothers-in-law also being present.[5][1]

Death

François St-Germain died on 9 Nov 1782 and was buried on the 11th in Ste-Geneviève (Pierrefonds)[6]

his funeral record gives him the age of around 70 and states he was an ex guide and voyageur. In 1767 when his son Jean Amable marries, he and his wife are listed as residing in St-Laurent parish.

The correct day of birth was 11 March as shown on the image supplied by Fichier Origine. In the records of Sury-aux-Bois the previous act was dated the 7th, the next one the 12th.
