Ethel (George) Burman was born in Northamptonshire, England.

Ethel George was born 7 January 1898 in Brackley, Northamptonshire, England, UK ^{[1] [2] [3]} to John and Rebekah (Bennett) George. ^[4] She was christened 6 March 1898 in Brackley. ^[5]

Her father died in 1898 ^[6] and her mother remarried in 1900 to Edward Plevey. ^[7]

In 1901 the family was still living in Brackley. Her step-father was a coach builder. ^[4]

In 1911 at the age of 13, Ethel was living in Bewdley, Worcestershire, with Clara Helen Plevey, the sister of her step-father. ^[8]

Ethel married Alfred Edwin Burman in 1924 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. ^[9]

Ethel and Alfred had one child: Kenneth Alfred in 1926. ^{[2] [10]}

In 1939 she lived with her husband in Birmingham. ^[2]
