Hi Guy, you asked me if "His Roméo Gauthier your Father and Monique Trottier your Mother". Gauthier is my father's adopted family name. So the answer is no. We don't know who his father and mother are.

Per wikitree standards can you please change any profiles with the LAST NAME AT BIRTH as hyphens (---) to unknown ? Thanks

Hi Guy,

Thanks for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Collaboration with Pre-1700 Project members is essential for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because those ancestors are usually shared by many descendants.

It looks like the Canada Project or the France Project would be a good fit based on your branch of WikiTree. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles that you manage or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Hello Guy

Please see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Quebecois Québécois project page for guidelines on how to enter names, as well as locations. This also applies to later eras, the main reason being computer limitations, we want a single profile for each person, and this allows the computer to match profiles, otherwise when dit names are also entered, in the multiple permutations possible, the computer simply can't tell they are the same.

Thanks

Danielle, project coordinator

Hello Danielle,

Thank you for this information on this project, i will read the information on this project. I am a new user on WikiTree from the last 2 or 3 months I now that computer see a difference on accent we use or not in french writting. I was writting names without accent like: e instead é, a instead â and so on. Few double where create & merge on suggestion from other manager, after verification on match. Find out yesterday that is not a rule and some manager do use accent

Still a lot to learn on WikiTree

Hello Guy,

I see that you replaced the parents on two profiles, specifically Châteauvert-23 and Chateauvert-18. Please do not ever do this without contacting the profile managers first! The new profiles that you created are duplicates and need to be merged. In general, though, you should not replace the parents on a profile unless you're in contact with the profile manager, just to be safe. And if they don't respond, you can always ask someone else on WikiTree to confirm that your hypothesis is correct. (The only time you should remove parents from a profile is when they are provably wrong--if not, change the status indicator to "uncertain.") -Sarah

Hello Sarah,

Sorry about this,

I am a new user on WikiTree from the last 2 or 3 months. Still learning new thing every week. Yesterday was a bad day with Chateauvert & Châteauvert I now that computer see a difference on accent we use or not in french writting. I will tank you on few merge you suggest me with those double Find out yesterday that is not a seem to be a rule, some manager do use accent and some manager d'ont use it.

I do send email to some project manager on my research with my source of possible.

WikiTree can be very difficult to learn at first. The Mentors are great and you should feel free to reach out to them if you have any questions: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Contact_a_Mentor Or you can always post on G2G and someone will help.

The accents can be inconsistent depending on who created the profile. When I first started I didn't put in accents for a lot of profiles, so I have been going back and correcting the names.

It's very important to always check for a duplicate before you create a new profile. You can use WikiTree's search feature to see if a profile already exists. The search feature will show related names, for example if you type "Jean Baptiste" into first name and "Bedard" into last name, you will get results for Jean-Baptiste Bédard (with hyphen and accent), and variations like Jean Charles Bedard, etc. It's good to scroll through carefully and see if the profile is already there. The Québécois Project is very active and many people from 1600s-1800s are already on WikiTree.

"Dit" names like "Faucher dit Châteauvert" can be very confusing. Here is a quick link to the naming guidelines section for the project page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Quebecois#Guidelines_on_Names

I have that link bookmarked on my computer so that I can refer back to it. If you scroll down a bit there is a guideline for place names which is also helpful.

I was married to a man from there and his mother's fAMILY was Metis and French. Her Maiden Name was Cavalier. She had her Native American trib rights through Manitoba and got all Her medical attention from Manitoba, Canada.

Picard is the name You had listed that I am interested in. Do You knoe of any Picards in KY,IN,Il,NC or SC> ?
