US Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar, and established a practice in Amherst County, Virginia. After serving in both the Virginia House of Delegates and State Senate, he was elected as a Democratic-Republican to Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Wilson Cary Nicholas.
