William Gardner is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A208290.
William was born in Nantucket, Massachusetts Gardner. [1]
27 November 1766, William married Susanna Gardner, daughter of James and Susanna Gardner of Nantucket, Massachusetts.[2]

"Deep River Preparative Meeting recommends and this meeting appoints Stephanus Haworth overseer in room of William Gardner who requested to be released from that service." This in reference to a visit to someone requesting to marry. The description, however, mistakenly describes this as a "removal".
Children of William Gardner were recorded in Deep River Monthly Meeting of Friends in Guilford County, North Carolina. [4]
William Gardner witnessed the marriage of his daughter, Susanna, to Caleb Mendenhall on 4 August 1791 at Deep River Monthly Meeting, Guilford County, North Carolina. Other witnesses who signed the marriage record were Phinneas Mendenhall, Barzallia Gardner, George Mendenhall, Thaddeus Gardner, Solomon Howard, Jamima Gardner, Matilda Macy, Rachel Gardner, Kezia Bond, Mary Harrel (?) and Judith Bunker. Susanna's mother. [5]
According to Friends records, Deep River Monthly Meeting, William and Susanna had the following children:

NOTES:
6 Nov 1797 "Deep River Preparative Meeting recommends and this meeting appoints Stephanus Haworth overseer in room of William Gardner who requested to be released from that service." This in reference to a visit to someone requesting to marry. The description, however, describes this as a "removal". [7]

William Gardner in the Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988 e Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988 VIEW Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988 Name: William Gardner Event Type: Marriage Marriage Date: 27 Nov 1766 Marriage Place: Nantucket, Massachusetts Father Name: Stephen Gardner Mother Name: Jemima Worth Spouse Name: Susanna Gardner [8]

There is a land grant record for a William Gardner dated 7 June 1799, for 230 acres on the banks of Deep River. [9]
According to my calculations, this should be in the area of Penny Road in modern day Jamestown, North Carolina. This quite possibly is the area where the Gardners and Lambs later had their gun making workshops.

Note: Although a date of death has been noted, there is as yet no known location for William's burial. It would most likely have been at Deep River, but there is no record to be found. Possibly his grave was unmarked.
