Biography

This profile is part of the Gardner Name Study.

The following was taken from a book entitled "Ancestors and Descendants of Thomas Hill and Rebecca Miles" by Sr. Mary Louise Donnelly.

Besides his land, his "goods and chattels" amounted to over 486 lbs of sterling. His next of kin was given as "Luke Gardiner, only brother of the deceased."

Of interest in his inventory was a Chapel Room with "bed & furniture,", "old flagg chairs," and "church ornaments." This shows that Mass was said in the home of John Gardiner and that the priest saying Mass alos found lodging at John Gardiner's home. Besdies the chapel room and bedroom, the house contained another romm, a bedroom, a closet, hall, lower room, children's closet (room), dairy, cellar, kitchen, slave quarters, 13 slaves, and numerous livestock, including horses, sheep, cows, pigs, hogs, cattle, and bulls.
