Research Notes

Anecdote from 1820 Census

Place: Sampson County, North Carolina
From The National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Volume 52, Extracts from Georgia Court Records, Page 204: Moses Westbrook, the enumerator of his Captain's district of Sampson County, North Carolina, in the census of 1820, on the page facing page 289 of his return, had this to say of his father-in-law, Bartholomew Ganey: "Mr. Ganey lives with Lee One hundred and five years of age and is said to drink half gallon of brandy a day." There is an arrow pointing from the record of Reddick Lee. (Previously this profile stated "This anecdote is unable to be reproduced." However, this can be seen on page 289. Gainey-237 and Gainey-3 appear to represent the same person because: These 2 profiles share the same dates and spouse. However, the children are different. Is it possible they are the same person?
Unconfirmed match (noting that spouse is mentioned as Reddick, however):

Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR Genealogical Research Databases, database online, (http://www.dar.org/ : accessed 18 Jan 2021), "Record of Gainey, Bartholomew", Ancestor # A043108.

Note also that the death date that is supported by the DAR record (post 4 May 1820) appears to coincide with (after) "2 May 1820," the date of the codicil to his will. No source is shown for either the birth or death dates reported on this profile.
