Robert Gadsden was a school principal who made significant contributions to schooling in Savannah, Georgia and was a driving force behind establishment of the local YMCA which served African-AMerican soldiers returning home from World War II.[1]
Robert was born about 1874.
In the 1910 census Robert (age 36) was the married head of household in Militia District 2, Chatham, Georgia, United States.[2]
Robert registered for the WWI draft in 1918 in Savannah, Chatham, Georgia, United States. He listed his wife Laura as the nearest relative.[3]
Robert died (age 105) on 22 June 1979 in Chatham, Georgia.[4] Burial was in the Laurel Grove Cemetery South, Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia.[1]
