Biography

I have been researching my family history for around 18 years, although have been interested all my life. I loved hearing my grandmother and her sister telling stories about their family. My 21 year old daughter has been actively participating in family research alongside me since she was a small child and now works on her own projects as well as collaborations with other relatives.

My origins are colonial Australian, with all branches arriving in Australia between 1788 to 1865. All branches can be traced back to England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and USA. I have two first fleet convict ancestors, two second fleet convict ancestors plus a second fleet free settler, two third fleet convict ancestors plus a third fleet ship’s captain who is a Mayflower descendant. There are also several other convicts and free settlers in my back ground, including an Irish convict who spent several years at the Parramatta Female Factory, an Irish convict who helped build the road over the Blue Mountains, military people and their families, Glostonian bounty immigrants, other assisted immigrants, Irish potato famine immigrants, and those who paid for their own passage. My children also have Indigenous, African (first fleeter) and Prussian ancestry.

My Current Projects

  • Researching James Ruse the younger, born in Parramatta, NSW, Australia in 1793. He was the son of first fleeter James Ruse and second fleeter Elizabeth Perry Occupation: mariner.
  • Continuing to build our big Gabb tree in ancestry.com, the descendants of John Gabb (1720-1767) and Mary Knee (1719-1779).
  • Researching Margaret Morgan, convict from Down, Ireland who arrived in NSW, Australia in 1833 and was sent to the Parramatta Female Factory.

Hi, Amanda

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Amanda,

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: New Member How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
