It may seem morbid, but in the event of my untimely demise I want to be sure that none of my hard work on WikiTree ends up being deleted. While I fully intend on being around to manage all my profiles for a very long time, in the event of my incapacitation or death I hereby give permission for all of my profiles to be made open.

Thanks for taking responsibility for the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. One quick way to find the profiles you adopted is by searching your Contributions List for the word "adopted" and "manager." You can find a quick link to your Contributions List in the My WikiTree dropdown menu.
Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up GEDCOM biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!

PS If the profile needs GEDCOM cleanup, the AGC tool can help with formatting so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.
Hi Douglas! Michael Golder (Golder-301) is my 4th cousin 4x removed (if my Golder research is correct), so we are somehow distant cousins! I'm also related to many De Motts thru my Blue/Blaw family (my father's mother was a Blue). I have lots of New Netherlands ties, and if you ever want to bounce a question off of me or ask what I have on people you're working on, let me know. I once downloaded a very large file on the De Mott family that I have in my notebook on the Blue/Blaw family. Have you come across anything like that?
Hi Cousin Amy!! Thanks for reaching out and thanks for adding profiles to my Golder & Treadwell line. I'm planning on building out the Treadwell line to connect to a direct ancestor that is already in wikitree. Michael Golder has been a dead end for me (he's my 4th GGF)... Thanks for the offer to help with questions. Once I have some more time to spend on wikitree, I'm sure I'll have questions. I teach and things are getting pretty busy. I think I may have the same large file on the Demott's that you mentioned. DeMott is my grandmother's maiden name, so that is one of the main lines that got me started. Well off to do some grading. I look forward to helping and working with each other.

I am enjoying my first few weeks on WikiTree. I'm glad you asked about (and posted the link to) "New member How-To" It was very helpful getting me started. Now I'll probably go back to it again .
I've built one line of ancestors up through my 5th-GGP and then connected to an existing profile. It leads to a New Netherland Settler (Demotte-19) who arrived in Wilwyck (now Kingston, NY) in 1665. There's another link that I'm working on linking to an existing profile, that leads to another New Netherland Settler (Snedeker-9). So I'm enjoying it. I do work full time, so I fit it in where and when I can...
Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Thanks for the welcome Claire. I've been working on my family history for 4 or 5 years now, mostly in ancestry.com, as time permits. I'm currently working on my DeMott family line. My 8th GGF, Michiel Mot [DeMott] is mentioned in the Wiltwyck [today's Kingston, NY] records in 1665. The record is of a contract for a year's service, as a personal servant, to Thomas Chambers (Chambers-61) for 20 beavers!
I'm new to Wikitree and am enjoying learning about Wikitree and building my family's tree. It appears that Michiel Mot, is listed in three profiles (Demotte-19, De Mott-9 & De Modt-1). It also seems the New Netherland Settlers Project group is looking into merging some or all of these profiles. You mentioned that I should consider joining a group. I did submit a request to join the New Netherland Settlers Project, last week. So until I hear back I'll keep brushing up on my Wikitree skills in my family tree.
What a great story about your ancestor! I'm a member of the New Netherlands project, too; my grandmother was a Van Schoonhoven. Now that my own family tree is pretty well established, I spend most of my time helping tidy up broken or abandoned profiles, so I haven't kept up with the New Netherlands group as well as I should have.
I was a medievalist back in the day. From your surname, I'm guessing your ancestors were connected somehow to 10th/11th c. castles (motte and bailey). Maybe came over with the Conquerer...?
Have fun on WikiTree, Douglas. We're around if you get stuck or have a question.
