August Julius Fritz was born on 18 Sep 1884 in Plainland, Queensland, Australia. He was the son of Ludwig Johann Fritz and Nathalie Amalie (Schafferius) Fritz. ^[1]

August attended Plainland school. He was fond of music and learnt to play the violin at an early age. Later on he learnt the accordion and mandolin.

Along with his brother Walter, he went up to the Bundaberg area to cut sugar cane for a couple of seasons. It was hard work in those days, cutting by hand and shoulder loading.

He married Annie Marie Margaretta Viertel on 18 Apr 1914 in Queensland, Australia. ^[2] Anna was always called Gretchen. After their marriage they moved to a dairy farm in Goomeri.

August worked on building roads. Whilst there, August joined the Goomeri Brass Band playing the Euphonium. Around 1916 they moved to a cane farm in the South Kalkie area of Bundaberg. It was the first of 3 cane farms that he owned over the years. One was at Barolin Road and the other at South Kalkie.

All of the children were christened and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and attended Woongarra State School. They either walked or rode their bikes the two miles to school. Gretchen never learnt to drive a car. As they grew older, each of the boys worked on the farm, and eventually each one was helped onto his own farm.

In August 1954 Gretchen left the farm and retired to live in Bundaberg town. August died in his sleep in Bundaberg and Gretchen died nearly 2 years later. Stella took care of her youngest sister Betty a lot and rode her around on her bicycle. Stella played tennis on the weekends. August and Anna had a happy home with their 10 children. ^{[3] [4]}

August Julius Fritz died on 28 Aug 1965 in 1965 in Bundaberg, Queensland and was buried in the Bundaberg General Cemetery, Bundaberg, Queensland. ^{[5] [6]}
