Giovanni Frisella (the family is sometimes called Frisella Vella, and some records call him Giovanni Vella) is born around 1852[1] in Corleone, the son of Don Giuseppe Frisella and Donna Giuseppa Orlando[2][1], who married in 1850.[3]
Giovanni marries Donna Ignazia Piazza on 5 November 1876. His parents are both still living.[2]
Giovanni and Ignazia have at least two children, Giuseppa (1885) and Maddalena (1889).
Giuseppa is born 5 June 1885 and baptized ten days later, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Pietro Simoncini and Francesca Vella Frisella, who is unmarried.[4]
Maddalena is born 19 August 1889 and baptized 7 September. Her godparents are Francesco Vitagliano and Marianna Piazza.[5]
Giovanni is a Sylvan Guard chief, investigating cattle thefts, when he is shot and killed on his way home. Two women witness the killing, and of them, one is threatened and the other is killed.[6] One of the women, Frisella's neighbor, Anna di Puma, recognizes one of two men lurking nearby as Giuseppe Morello. A couple minutes later she hears a shot, and runs back to find Vella dying. She tells neighbors what she's seen.[7]
The Church records Giovanni's murder (interfecta) at age 37 (b. 1852) on 29 December 1889. His father has died by this time. His mother and wife survive him.[1]
Two days later, Anna di Puma is shot in the back and killed. Giuseppe Morello is arrested and charged with the murder, according to Amoruso[7], but Bruno says Morello evades arrest.[6] Di Puma's death record has not been found. Cascio-10 09:51, 9 November 2015 (EST)
