Biography

Elisha was born in 1701 in Eastham, Massachusetts, the son of Samuel Freeman and Bathshua Lothrop[1] [2]

On May 7, 1725, he married Lydia Freeman, the daughter of the daughter of Nathaniel Freeman and Mary Howland of Eastham[2], and their children included[3]:

  1. Eunice, born July 5, 1727[4] [3]
  2. Mary, born April 4, 1729[5] [3]
  3. Lydia, born February 6, 1730[6] [3] [2]
  4. Simeon, b 28 Feb 1733 in Rochester[3] , who married Patience Wood[2]
  5. Elisha, b February 12, 1734 in Rochester[3]; who married Mary Waterman of Liverpool on July 1, 1762[2]
  6. Barnabas, b January 21, 1737 in Rochester[3]; who married Thankful Dennis of Rochester on Nov. 15, 1759[2]
  7. Nathaniel. b 05 Mar 1739 in Rochester[7][3]; who married Hannah Tupper of Liverpool, NS on April 20, 1776[2]
  8. Phoebe, born June 21, 1742[8] [3]
  9. Lothrop, born in 1744[9], who died in 1745[3] [10]
  10. Lothrop, b October 16, 1746 in Rochester; who married Experience Knowles and Sarah Cobb[3] [2]
  11. Zoheth, b 18 Sep 1749 in Rochester[11][12]; who married Jane Harlow, daughter of Robert on May 9, 1774[2] [13]

The 2019 edition of the Brewster Silver Book does NOT include Patience or Hope as children of Elisha and Lydia Freemen. Their (11) children are listed as: Eunice, Mary, Lydia, Simeon, Elisha, Barnabas, Nathaniel, Phebe, Lothrop, Lothrop, and Zoeth.[14]

In 1759, Elisha Freeman, along with John Doggett, Samuel Doggett, and Thomas Foster, on behalf of themselves and the other persons hereinafter mentioned, have made application to for a township within this Province[15].

The first entry in the original book of records of the town of Liverpool, Nova Scotia is in his handwriting, and is as follows: Page 1, Liverpool, Feb. 29, 1762; these births, deaths, and marriages, hereafter to be mentioned or to be registered by me, Elisha Freeman, Proprietor's Clerk. He was a judge, Member of Legislative Assembly, and merchant in Nova Scotia[16]. The Liverpool records show Elisha Freeman was a widower when he emigrated to Liverpool with six sons and three daughters[2]

He passed away 19 May 1777 – and waas buried 20 May 1777[17]
