George was born in 1867. He was the son of John Franklin and Mary Stanley. He passed away in 1937.
George T Franklin - Death Story Article Posted May 22, 2012 by Albacheeser MARTINSVILLE MORNING POST, Martinsville, Va., Tue., June 1, 1937, p. 1, col. 3 [edited]. Death early Sunday at his home near Bassett removed from Henry County, one of its most outstanding citizens, and public officials, George T. Franklin, 69, Mr. Franklin being found dead in his bed. Death was attributed to a paralytic stroke. Although in declining health for the past several years he was able to attend to his public official duties as well as his private interests. Funeral services will be held from the late home Tuesday. He was a staunch advocate of the Primitive Baptist faith. Until his resignation last December due to ill health, he was a long time chairman of the board of supervisors of the county. He was a highway contractor and builder. Mr. Franklin had been a member of the Knights of Pythias. He was also a member of the Masonic order. Surviving are his wife, who was formerly Miss Mae Belle Thomasson, this county; three daughters, Mrs. Leonard Johnson of Spray, N.C.; Mrs. J. C. Fulcher of Salem and Mrs. Robert Vernon of Bassett; six sons, Myrant, Flickwir, Neville, Onas, Glenn and Orville, all of Bassett; three sisters, Mrs. G. E. Philpott, this city; Mrs. G. M. Dillon of Roanoke and Mrs. J. J. Philpott of Bassett; two brothers, D. P. Franklin of Roanoke and W. P. Franklin of Winston-Salem.
