Biography

George was a Friend (Quaker)

George was the son of Francis Fox and Tabitha Croker. He was born at St Germans, Cornwall on 25 September (Quaker 7th month) 1693.[1][2] He was named in his father's 1703 will.[3]

On 20 April 1714 George married Mary Bealing of Penryn, Cornwall at Kea Quaker Meeting House, Cornwall.[4][5] They had the following children:

  • Elizabeth, born at born at Tywardreath, Cornwall on 25 January 1716/7 (Quaker 11th month 1716/7)[6][7] and buried at Tregangeeves Quaker burial ground on 2 February 1717/8 (Quaker 12th month 1717)[8]
  • Rachell, born at born at Tywardreath, Cornwall on 22 September (Quaker 7th month) 1718[9][10] and buried on 29 October (Quaker 8th month) 1718 at Tregangeeves Quaker burial ground, Cornwall[11]
  • Edward, born at Tywardreath, Cornwall on 22 September (Quaker 7th month) 1719[12][13]
  • another Elizabeth, born on 24 August (Quaker 6th month) 1721[14][15]
  • George, born on 5 March 1722/3 (Quaker 1st month 1722/3)[16][17] and buried at Tregangeeves Quaker burial ground, Cornwall on 4 April (Quaker 2nd month) 1724[18]

George's first wife Mary Bealing died in August 1725 and was buried at Tregangeeves Quaker burial ground, Cornwall. (The Quaker death and burial record gives no precise day of the month.)[19]

On 5 February 1726/7 (Quaker 12th month 1726), at Looe Quaker Meeting House, Cornwall, George married again, his second wife being Anna Debell. Quaker marriage records describe him as of Par, Cornwall, member of Austle (St Austell, Cornwall) Quaker Meeting, son of Francis Fox of St Germans, Cornwall, deceased, and Tabitha; and her as daughter of Philip and Anna Debell of Looe.[20][21][22] They had the following children:

George died on 13 March 1756 and was buried on 17 March at Tregangieves Quaker burial ground near St Austell, Cornwall. The Quaker death and burial record describes him as of Parr (Par), Cornwall.[38][39] His will, dated 11 September 1755, was proved on 21 April 1756. In it he:[40][41][42]

  • describes himself as of Tywardreath (Tywardreath, near Par), Cornwall: this is likely to be his death place
  • requests burial at "Treganjeves" Quaker burial ground near his deceased (first) wife and deceased children
  • names:
    • his sons Edward Fox and George Croker Fox
    • his under-age children Joseph Fox, Francis Fox, Tabitha Fox, Anna Fox and Rachell Fox
    • his second wife Anna, whom he appointed sole executor
    • his deceased father-in-law Edward Bealing

Fox-21645 Joe Fox III
We do have several descendants of George Fox (1693-1756) in the Fox Y-DNA Surname Project at FamillytreeDNA. KIt 16564 is a descendant of his son George Fox and kit 60400 is a descendant of his son Joseph and they have done BigY500 testing. They are a very close match. See
