The following story comes from the Clinton County, NY, Civil War Record 1861-1865 Facebook Page:
KILLED IN ACTION - In 1839, Pierre Fournier and his second wife, Marie-Archange David, brought their family of six from Longueuil, Quebec, to settle in the Redford area. Their son, David, was the fourth child born after the move and he was followed by two brothers who were too young to join the Civil War.
David was one of twenty-one men who enlisted in Plattsburgh in August 1864. He was listed twice – once as Fournier and once as Trenyea (Frenyea). The 10th Infantry had a few months of heavy fighting near Petersburg that year losing almost 200 men to casualty. The group was sent to the battlefield near Petersburgh and their first battle was at the Boydton Plank Road where they had eight casualties – none of whom were wounded.
The regiment stayed in the fortifications near Petersburg and during a skirmish on November 22nd, David was killed in action – the only one of his group to be killed. He was buried near the city.
In June 1865, his mother, Mary, claimed a pension based on her son’s service.
