Biography

James Royce Vansittart Forrest was probably born on 4 June 1841 and was baptised on 12 September 1841 at Ville d'Aubigny, Québec, Canada, the son of Grant Forrest and Ellen Gilding.

He married Amelia Waller circa 1865. They had at least six children:

1. Grant Waller Forrest (b. 7 Feb 1867, d. 4 Jan 1909)
2. Henrietta Yeilding Forrest (b. abt. 4 Jul 1871 , m. 23 Jun 1892 Clarence Leslie Williams, d. 1962)
3. Catherine Royse Forrest (b. 16 Nov 1870, m. 6 Dec 1900 Edwin Jackson, d. 22 Nov 1968)
4. Miriam Forrest (b. 31 Aug 1874, d. 7 Aug 1963 unm)
5. Hamilton Waller Forrest (b. abt. 12 Oct 1879, d. 11 Jan 1935)
6. Edward Forrest (b. abt. 1885)

In the 1891 Census of Canada, J R Forest (aged 48) was recorded living with his wife Emilia Forrest (45) at St Louis Ward, Montréal Centre, Quebec. Also in the household were their children Grant Forrest (24), Henriette Forrest (21), Catherine Forrest (19), Mariel Forrest (16), Hamilton Forrest (13) and Eduard Forrest (6)^[1].

In the 1901 Census of Canada, Emilia Forrest (aged 64) was recorded living with her husband Jamaes Forest (58, a Journalist) at Maisonneuve, Hochelaga, Quebec. Also in the household were their two adult children Grant Forest (34, an Operator) and Mariane Forest (23), along with niece Maud Forrest (30)^[2].

His wife Amelia died in about 1904.

James Royce Vansittart Forrest passed away on 3 October 1919 and was buried at Cimetière Mont-Royal, Outremont, Montreal Region, Quebec, Canada^[3].
