David Ford was born in the second quarter of 1842 in Overton, Wiltshire, England to Elijah Ford and Ann Richens.[1]
When he was just seven years old, his parents decided to emigrate. On 9 Mar 1849, the family boarded the ship Emigrant in Plymouth, England and arrived in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 8 Jun 1849.[2][3]
The arrival of the ship was announced in the newspaper:
The Emigrant has made an excellent passage of ninety days from Plymouth. She has on board three hundred and twenty immigrants, principally English. During the voyage there were thirty-eight cases of measles, the last admission being on the 2nd instant. Eleven deaths occurred, but one only from the above cause. The ship is at present in a healthy state, but it has been thought advisable to place her in quarantine for a few days, in order that the bedding, &c., may be well aired.
MARRIAGE. By special licence, at Morpeth, March 16th, by the Rev. T. E. Owens Mell, David, eldest son of Mr. Elijah Ford, Morpeth, to Ellen, eldest daughter of Mr. James Pont, East Maitland.
David Ford died in 1927 in Young.[9] He was 85 years old.
