Biography

In 1910 one year old Newel was the youngest of 7 children living with Patrick and Ida Ford. The family was living on Fourth Street in Floresville, Texas. Father Patrick was a drayman and mother Ida was the proprietor of a hotel.^[1] Newell and his elder brother Clifford were still at home with their parents in 1920.^[2]

N P Ford of Melbourne, Arkansas age 23, and Bernice Ashley of Salem Arkansas were married on April 17, 1931, in Independence county.^[3]

The couple took up residence in Salem, Arkansas and in 1940 they lived on Country Road in Salem. in a rented home that cost $5/month. They had one daughter, Barbara Lou, age 5. Both Bernice and Newell had college degrees and Newell was employed as a printer.^[4]

In the 1940 Draft Registration Newell cited his birth as May 6, 1908.^[5] He would enlist in the Navy on April 7, 1944, and would be discharged on December 11, 1945.^[6]

Newell died in Bell County Texas in 1992.^[7] He was buried in Arkansas.^[8]
