Iain was born in 1946. He was the son of Harold Foote and Joy Martin. He passed away in 1953 while accompanying his father on a rail journey in the North Island of New Zealand. He died amongst many others, including his father, in the Tangiwai Rail Disaster.
The Tangiwai disaster occurred at 22:21 on 24 December 1953 when the Whangaehu River bridge collapsed beneath Wellington-to-Auckland express passenger train № 626 at Tangiwai.
The Rootsweb fatality list gives his last known address as 11 Brookside Terrace, Christchurch.
Iain and his father Harold were interred at Karori Cemetery in Wellington (Area 10. Block D, Row 1, Plot 1) but then a memorial was erected at Papakura Cemetery in Auckland.
