Biography

Ann Priscilla Flight was born in 1824 in Rodborough, Gloucestershire, England to John Flight and Charlotte (Hill) Flight - she was christened on 12 Sep 1824 in Rodborough.[1]

In 1841 Ann Flight (age 15-19) lived at Carn's Cross in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire with her father John (35-39, Inn Keeper), mother Charlotte (35-39), and five siblings: William (15-19), Elizabeth (14), Charlotte (13), John (11), and Ellen (1), as well as two servants: Eliza Smith (15-19) and William Saunders (15-19).[2]

Ann Priscilla Flight (age 24, daughter of John Flight) married George Dyer Nethercott (age 27, son of Robert Nethercott) on 30 Aug 1848 in Stroud, Gloucestershire.[3] The marriage was registered in Stroud in the third quarter of the year.[4]

Ann and George had six children:

  1. Charlotte Emma (Nethercott) Booth (1852-1927)
  2. Mary Ann Elizabeth "Bessie" (Nethercott) Shaw (1855-1921)
  3. Rose Ellen (Nethercott) Dewhurst (1857-1929)
  4. Walter John Nethercott (1859-1919)
  5. George Nethercott (1860-1942)
  6. William Henry Nethercott (1863-1924)

In 1851 Ann Nethercott (age 26) lived in Stroud with her husband George (29, Mealman).[5]

In 1861 Ann Frebercott [Nethercott] (age 37) lived at Uley Road in Dursley, Gloucestershire with her husband George (40, Mealman) and five children: Charlotte (8, Scholar), Elizabeth (6, Scholar), Ellen (4), Walter (2), and George (0), as well as nephew Richard [Nethercott] (17, Millers Assistant) and servant Rosina Morgan (14).[6]

Ann's husband passed away in 1864: "6 January [1865]. The Will of George Nethercott late of the Parish of Dursley in the County of Gloucester Miller deceased who died 2 October 1864 at the said Parish was proved at Gloucester by the oath of Ann Priscilla Nethercott of the said Parish Widow the Relict the sole Executrix. Effects under £600."[7]

In 1871 Ann P Nethercott (age 46, Retired) lived in Stroud with three of her children: Charlott (18, Dressmaker), George (10, Scholar), and William H (8, Scholar).[8] Ann's other two daughters were living with Ann's sisters: [Mary Ann] Elizabeth (16, Assistant Innkeeper) lived with Harriet (Flight) Carter in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire; and Rose E (14, Servant) lived with Elizabeth (Flight) Hill in Stroud. Ann's son Walter (12, To Be Apprenticed) was living in Bristol St Mary Redcliffe with potential employer Charles Williams (a Chemist/Druggist).

In 1881 Ann Nethercott (age 56, Lodging House Keeper) lived in Stroud with three of her children: Rose (24, Milliner), George (20, Assistant Schoolmaster), and William (18, Cabinet Maker), as well as servant Mary Ockwell (17).[9]

In 1891 Anne P Nethercott (age 66, Lets Apartments) lived in Stroud with her daughter Rose E (31), granddaughter Eva Shaw (3), servant Mary Lock (42), and three lodgers: Frederick G T Goldstone (22, Bank Clerk), Mariam Everett (49), and Bessy Hancox (24).[10]

Ann Priscilla Nethercott passed away on 22 Apr 1899, aged 74 years. Her death was registered in Blackburn, Lancashire in the second quarter of the year.[11]

"NETHERCOTT Ann Priscilla of the "Griffin" hotel Blackburn widow died 22 April 1899 Probate London 3 July to Walter John Nethercott chemist and George Nethercott schoolmaster Effects £2299 6s. 11d."[12]
