Biography

Samuel Fleming was born 12 Mar 1837 in Ontario, Canada to Thomas Fleming and Matilda (Mason) Fleming.

In 1851 Samuel "Flaming" (age 15) lived in Egremont, Grey County, Ontario with his father Thomas (37, Farmer), mother Matilda (34) and four younger brothers: Stewart (14), James (12), John (10), and Thomas (7).[1][2]

Samuel Fleming (age 28[actually 22], son of Thomas & Matilda Fleming) married Catherine Crittenden (age 19, daughter of Benjamin & Maria Crittenden) on 20 Dec 1859 in Grey County, Ontario.[3]

Samuel and Catherine had at least ten children: Matilda Fleming (c1860-bef.1871), William Henry Cross Fleming (1862-1946), Thomas Benjamin Fleming (1864-1941), Samuel George Fleming (c1867-bef.1874), John Wesley Fleming (c1869-), James Stewart Fleming (1871-), Samuel Barkley Fleming (1874-), Maria Ellen Victoria (Fleming) Main (1876-1949), Eli George Mason Fleming (1878-), and Margaret Mary Matilda Fleming (1881-)

In 1861 Samuel Fleming (age 24, Farmer) lived in Egremont with his wife Catherine (21) and daughter Matilda (1).[4][5]

In 1871 Samuel Fleming (age 34, Farmer) lived in Proton Township, South Grey, Ontario with his wife Catherine (30) and four sons: Wm Henry (8), Thos Benjamin (6), Saml George (4), and John Wesley (2), as well as Jennett Lepperd (10, Servant Girl?).[6][7]

In 1881 Samuel Fleming (age 44, Farmer) lived in Proton with his wife Cathrine (42) and eight children: William H (18, Farmer), Thomas B (16, Farmer), John W (12), James S (9), Samuel B (6), Maria E V (4), Elie G M (2), and Margrey M M (2 months), as well as Emma Lepard (18).[8]

Samuel Fleming and family moved to the Northwest Territories in 1882 along with his mother and three of his brothers and their families - they settled in what is now Summerberry, Saskatchewan.

In 1891 Samuel Flenning (age 54, Farmer) lived in Qu'Appelle, Assiniboia East, Northwest Territories (an area that is now part of Saskatchewan) with his wife Katherine (52) and five children: James (19, Farmer), Samuel (17, Farmer), Victoria (15), Ely (13), and Matilda (10).[9][10]

Samuel Fleming passed away on 7 Nov 1900. He is buried in Summerberry Cemetery.[11]
