Riley was a veteran of World War I, serving in Battery D, 41st Artillery of the U. S. Army.[3]
Riley married Rosetta Porter on Mar. 27, 1919.

He worked as a crane operator of Rockwell International until his retirement.
Riley was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene for 50 years and served as a church trustee for 40 years. He was also a treasurer of the Nazarene World Missionary Society for 10 years.
Riley died at the age of 82 years on Aug. 13, 1975 at the Butler County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Pennsylvania. He is buried at Castle View Burial Park in Butler.[4]
