Biography

George Calvin Fisher was a son of Calvin C. Fisher and Della Frappier, born on 1 February 1913 in Chicopee, Massachusetts. His father was a tire maker, born in Stamford, Connecticut. His mother was born in Canada.[1]

The 1930 U.S. Census recorded Della Fisher, age 47, as head of a household in Holyoke, Massachusetts. She was divorced and shared her household with daughter Ethel Fisher, 18, son George Fisher, 17; and "daughter" Wilbur Fisher, 14. Della was a native of "Canada-French," as were her parents, and had immigrated to the United States in 1899. Her first language was French and she was a naturalized citizen. The children were born in Massachusetts to a Connecticut-born father and a mother born in Canada-French. Her occupation was housework for a private family. Ethel and Wilbur had no occupations; George worked at pasting in the blank book industry. [2]

The 1932 City Directory for Holyoke listed several members of the Fisher family at 442 High. These were Mrs Della; Ethel M, nurse Boston; George C; Henry L, stockman; and Louis H, stock clerk.[3]

The 1940 U.S. Census recorded 27-year-old George Fisher as head of a household at 33 Emerson St. in Chicopee, Massachusetts. He was single and worked as a gas station attendant in a private gas station. He had attended school through the 8th grade. Others in the household were his mother, 56-year-old Della Fisher, described as a widow; George's sister Ethel Fisher, 28; and a boarder named Thomas Boss, age 79.[4]

George Calvin Fisher died in Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1960.[5]
