Biography

James B. Fish was born in Pennsylvania on February 27, 1838. He was the son of Eliphas Fish and Sylvia Jackson.

In 1850, he lived with his parents and siblings in Falls, Wyoming, Pennsylvania.^[1]

At the age of 21, James married Margaret Lucretia Luckey on July 4, 1859, in Nicholson, Wyoming, Pennsylvania, when she was 19 years old. They had five children - Charlotte Josephine, |Bertia A., Avery Abner, John H., and Horatio Seymour.^[2]

In 1860, Margaret and James and their daughter lived in Clinton, Wyoming, Pennsylvania, where James worked as a blacksmith.^[3]

During the Civil War, he enlisted as a private on April 1, 1864, in the 190th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, Company H (the same unit as his brother-in-law William Luckey). The regiment saw action in Petersburg, Virginia. He was mustered out on June 28, 1865, in Washington, DC.^[4][5][6] He applied for and received a disability pension in September 1879.^[7]

From 1870 to 1900, they lived in Lemon, Wyoming, Pennsylvania with children (and in 1900, daughter-in-law), where James was a blacksmith in 1870 and a farmer in 1880.^{[8][9][10][11]}

James reached 69 years of age and died in Franklin, Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, on February 16, 1908.^[12][13] He was buried at Brookside Cemetery in Franklin Forks, Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.^[14][15]

Notes

• There are Ancestry trees (including those below) that include three additional children: Mary (b. 1866) and twins Jessie and Bessie (b. 1875). However, there is no evidence that these individuals were part of this family -- they do not appear in the 1870 or 1880 censuses, and in 1910, Margaret indicated that she had borne 5 children, with 4 surviving, which is consistent with the five children listed in this profile (son Avery died in 1899). So the three unsupported children have been detached from the family.
