Henry John Field was born on 7 April 1861 in Wahgunyah, Victoria, Australia, the son of Edeth Jones Field (nee Knight) and James Field.^[1][2]

He married Mary Ellen Nixon on 31 July 1882 in Albury, New South Wales.^[2] Their children were:^[2]
